How much moneys will be saved if I choose to design my own website for a business?

July 31, 2009 - 5:26 pm 5 Comments

I and my friend need a website. My friend is plan on pay this one lady 100 a month to have her design website. This lady is really slow and did a such awful job with the website. It took her about 6 months to design one simple logo for us. It take her 2 to 3 weeks to answer emails most of the time.

So I got fed up and told my friend I will do it myself. However I’m wondering how much will it cost to have a place host it. Also I’m wondering how much is the average price to have a website designer/developer to work on website?

The cost of hosting varies, according to the level of hosting you require. For example if you require CGI Script capabilities the cost will be higher than if you only require somewhere to serve your HTML pages.

It might be worth mentioning that free hosting is available, although the quality varies, and some hosts require you to have adverts on your pages.

I would try looking at http://www.webhostdir.com/ to find something that will fit your needs.

What should I look for when selecting an SEO (search engine optimization) company for my website development?

July 31, 2009 - 5:26 pm 4 Comments

Want to use part of my advertising budget to improve traffic and ranking of my website to grow my business, but there are a lot of makeshift companies out there and no standardization. I don’t want to waste my money!! Looking for recommendations….

Ok, first of all, you need to check our the SEO firm’s experience and ask for client testimonials (as well sample keyword ranking reports) proofing their work and results.

Is the SEO firm’s Web site already ranked for various keyword terms in the major search engines? What competitive search terms is their site ranking for?

Ask them whether they will perform natural or paid-per-click services, or a combination of both for your Web site.

Ask them what their exact procedure and process is for every SEO customer. Do they believe in only performing ethical and fair search engine practices, or will they cloak your site, insert hidden text or other practices considered illegal or unethical in the eyes of search engines. You wouldn’t want your Web site banned in the search engines.

Get pricing information about the SEO program they will be performing for you…do they bill hourly, monthly, annually? Get competitors pricing as well, to determine if the SEO firm you are considering is priced too high or too low below its competitors.

Ask how many Web pages they will handle for you, how many keyword terms they will target for you, how much (if any) link popularity they will do, as well what other SEO services come with your SEO program.

How will you know what keywords you are currently ranking for? What kind of analytics will they be using on your site? How will they track Web site visitors?

What professional business and/or SEO organizations do they belong to? Does anybody on their staff have an SEO certification? What types of college degrees do the staff have at the SEO firm? How long has the SEO firm been in business? how many clients do they have? These questions and others will help you determine which SEO firm to hire to optimize your company’s site.

How to run a web design company?

July 31, 2009 - 5:26 pm 4 Comments

I am planning on starting a web design company, and I am getting some staff together to help out. I am planning on how I want everything, and I just want more info on running one, so I don’t make a mistake when running one.

To run a web design company you need to create a website and for that you need a domain and webhosting. As an experienced webmaster I recommend purchase your domain and webhosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some webhosting companies offer this as a gift . I use bluehost webhosting for my websites I was a newbie a while back ,I have an excellent experience with Bluehost webhosting.I have called them several times for configuring my SQL database and some php stuff and every time they have solved my problems . Apart from that they also have a pretty straight foward control panel that I use daily.

Web Developer, Webmaster or Website Software Specialist?

July 31, 2009 - 5:25 pm 1 Comment

I’m interested in E-commerce and Web Design. I researched those professions listed above and they all seem to perform practically the same duties. I might be wrong, so I’m hoping to find some light here. Does anybody know the differences between the three professions? I would prefer facts rather than opinions.
Thank you in advance!

A web software specialist will create software in web languages like PHP, Perl, or Rails to later be deployed on one or more sites.

A web developer builds a website’s coding, but unlike a software writer his work is exclusive to one site.

A web master often does the work of a web developer, but is the overall head of the website, and oversees all of everything else too (web design, server setup, etc.),

I was wondering if there was a big need for website designers and computer repairers?

July 31, 2009 - 5:25 pm 6 Comments

I am thinking of getting an Associates in Information Technology and I was just wondering if I was going to be able to get a job.

Website designing - yes! Computer repairs? I’m not too sure because computers are cheap these days thus it may not be worth repairing.

Do Web Developers make good income in the States?

July 31, 2009 - 5:25 pm 3 Comments

Currently I’m a part time web developer working in Asia, just a bit curious.

There are tons, but depends where you’re at. Biggest area for IT right now is in the Northern Virginia, D.C., Baltimore areas. I make 65,000 in MD and I’m just a little over 2 years out of college.

I wouldnt try in, well, Kansas for example.

California is good too, but their standard of living is much higher than east coast.

Do you know any good web site designers for photographers?

July 31, 2009 - 5:25 pm 2 Comments

I have a whole lots of domain names with yahoo and it is packed in one email address. I have one website that I am developing through a website developer. I have to give him access inside my yahoo server and I don’t want to expose all my data’s to him. How can I create another account for him top access the server with compromising my privacy?

create a new FTP account in FTP section (if any, depends on your hosting plan). You can also link folder to this account. In that case only that folder will be visible to the user.

I want to talk with people who design flexible web sites that work on a cellphone, pda, iphone, blackberry, screen readers pwwebspeak, jaws, window-eyes and very large width screens in all browsers.

Are there discussion groups or forums out there?
