There are many website design companies, or all shapes and sizes.

There is a growing trendy that even companies using templated designs that they have bought itn or small bedroom run concerns are charging upwards of £1000 for their simplest brochure websites or £2000/£2500 for standard CMS and Ecommerce setups.

Is it the case that you as prospective clients would feel if a web design company charges say from £300 for a static 3 page website, or £500 for a 4 page self editable web presence and Ecommerce from £500 they are in someway not professional. And that it doesn’t quite add up ?

Simply put, do you think a website design company can price itselfs out of the market, by charging to little ?
Ryan £500 was for a content management based website not a basci brochure webwite, and besides the point was is £2000 plus to much for a CMS not £500, and £1000 to much brochure sites not £300.

£500 for a 4 page website, which is the same as a 3 page website with a few more clicks is REDICULOUS. If you know anything about HTML/XHTML w/ CSS, you can build yourself one. Considering they’re just taking an old site they’ve used before and changing the text in it. A short 30 minute process.

Does anyone know if Google, Yahoo or another large search engine company offers grants for non-profit organizations who want to create a website? Where can I make a proposal or find an application for this?

Google or Yahoo does not give grants for creating a website.

What Google gives is their free advertising program for non profits, assuming the non profit has a website. Yahoo has nothing

We need a website done for our new business quickly but we need it to be on the front page of google.

I’m basically looking to turn my rough layout into a legit foundation with proper fonts, icons etc. The website development is not the issue here, just a solid visual.

Because the browser doesn’t handle links the same way on the computer as it does on the web ( "/" as opposed to "\" and directory relative urls), I have to upload everything in order to test it or I have to change all my links after I finish testing in order to upload the site. What environment do you test in that will make this process easier?

How is the market lately for web design? I have being doing design on the side for personal and for friends for about 10 yrs now. Looking to move into doing it for a career but wonder how its fairing in this economic time.

On average what are the basic rates of today? Hard to find work? Most build just basic html sites or are people still going after Flash, Macromedia? Any tips would be helpful.

I think in a couple years… people will get so lazy that they won’t need to learn html and css… yes, i know it’s sad because i enjoy working with it. but i know other programs like dreamweaver will come along and they will be more high tech.. i, on the other hand HATE dreamweaver.. i’d rather just do it myself.. but i know web designers will fade in the next couple of years… eek. i’m scared. Flash is getting REALLY popular.
