How much to design a website?

September 25, 2009 - 7:14 am 8 Comments

Can someone let me know the average cost for building a website? I was quoted a price by a friend. Give me the cost per hour or how much it would be for the entire project.
This is for a retail website for clothing etc… So I will need a shopping cart added and all that.

Figure on $60. an hour ~
You can always do it yourself….

Many thanks to people who have tried to help me out, but we need to understand that it is a web company so I also need a website name to match. Also the name should be short for the same reason and best to be a .com

Thanks
Sandy

Web hosting for your web design company?

September 25, 2009 - 7:14 am 7 Comments

I’m making a web design company that designs and builds the sites and I want to host the sites that I’ve build on my own website. How would I do this? I don’t need anything complicated, just hosting with a domain name. I need it to be FREE, but I’m willing to pay under £30.
Please can anybody help?

if youre willing to extend your budget a fraction for quality the best hosting service is the "starter professional" by Heart internet

link is here if you want to take a look

its £29.99 for a year hosting but there is a £10 set up fee

ive used heart for a few years now and theyre brilliant!

How can I advance in WEB design? (beyond basic HTML and static pages) What skills and what software do I need?

September 25, 2009 - 7:14 am 8 Comments

I have created a couple of WEB sites using Microsoft Office Publisher (!). I think it is OK for static WEB pages. But now, I want to advance. I ‘d like to handle databases, to create e-commerce sites, stuff like this. I understand Front Page is no good. I know basic HTML,CSS and MySQL. So what should I do? What is the best way to go from here? I do not want to become a prof WEB developer or en expert, just I need to craft some nice looking, advanced pages. Should I learn Dreamweaver? Is PERLor PHP a must? Whata about APACHE? ASP.net covers everything?
To rephrase my question: which are the best tools one needs to pass from elementary WEB design to a little more advanced WEB developing?

I would recommend that you learn CSS, some PHP and mySQL to begin with. There are lots of great books on these topics, and I would recommend starting at the library to save some money.

If you don’t own dreamweaver, you can get a good text editor such as Notepad++, it is free.

PHP, MySQL, and CSS are all easily available to find sources that are free online to help you out.

Let me know if you would like some more resources and help as this was the delima I was in a year or two ago.

Website Designers? Can anyone tell me how Yahoo makes those flash ads that move around the entire webpage?

September 25, 2009 - 7:14 am 4 Comments

I’m looking all around the internet, and would love to learn how to do the technique. Please let me know. Or the thing that they do when the ad is over, and it shrinks, and the rest of the website shrinks as well. Thanks

Just to add my 2 cents, most usability studies will warn you not to do ads that move all over the place and take up varying amounts of screen real estate.

Which increment expression is the one most commonly used by programmers and Web developers?

September 25, 2009 - 7:14 am 2 Comments

Which increment expression is the one most commonly used by programmers and Web developers:

x++
or
x = x + 1

?

If the ++ is supported in a particular language, it is usually preferred.

If it isn’t, then you might see:

x += 1

The x = x + 1 form is not very idiomatic.

But of course, I have zero statistics on that, and neither does anyone else.

Looking for a cheap and affordable web designer / website developer to design site with custom graphics & php?

September 25, 2009 - 7:14 am 3 Comments

Looking for a cheap and affordable web designer / website developer to design me a web site using custom graphics and dynamic php. So I basically need a small business website designer who can make me a website for under US $300.

This guy can develop any kind of website

http://www.vizzed.com/webdesign.php

And he charges on average $200 – 250 for a fully custom web site!
He’s got years of experience, college education and just tons of skills. And you can do dynamic php as you requested with a database if you need that and he can work with flash, develop beautiful custom graphics, etc.
