Should I lower my prices because of our economy?

October 27, 2009 - 12:52 am 1 Comment

I am a reseller of a consumer electronic products and telephone products like Bluetooth headsets, etc. Also, I do website design/development as a side service. Does it make sense for me to lower my website design charges a little bit because of our economy? Last year my prices worked. This year I noticed myself giving many customers a lower price than what I would normally charge, mainly cause no one wants to spend money cause of the economy. Should I make it official and just lower my prices altogether till the economy comes back up?

Yes you should. I have lowered my prices too. The women aren’t willing to pay that much for me anymore. XD But seriously that is something you should consider. I hope you experience continued success buddy.

Need*

We don’t intend to have any employees, just ourselves
3 bound copies of Memorandum and Articles of Association

5 bound copies of Memorandum and Articles of Association

Company Seal

Company Register – Hardback maroon

Company Register – Loose Leaf

Registered Office

Mail Forwarding

Nominee Secretary

Nominee Director

Nominee Shareholder

Maintenance of Statutory Books

Writing up of Initial Entries (includes a Loose Leaf register)
for a Ltd company

You don’t legally need any of these things.

I recommend you start as freelance rather than with a Ltd. This will save you the set up costs. If your business is successful, you might want to form an LLC which will allow you the asset protection of an Ltd but the tax advantages of a partnership.

What you must do at the outset is:

1. Decide between you how you will split the costs and profits. Write this down and both sign.

2. Draw up an indemnity letter that your customers will sign so that you are not liable for errors or copyright issues as a result of putting up material provided by your customers. You can find some good example letters on the internet.

What you should do at the outset is:

Think about who and how you are going to go out and find the business (by far the hardest part of the work), how you are going to bill and what kind of hourly/daily rate you are going to aim for

How do i set up a online store?

October 27, 2009 - 12:52 am 4 Comments

I’m currently in school for web design. I’m proficient with xhtml, css, and flash. I have a client that would like to sell their t shirts online. I have never designed a e-commerce site before. What would be a good route to take when desiging a e-commerce site? I thought about oscommerce and a yahoo merchant account. What should i do?

I would recommend a solution which manages content dynamically. If you apply a theme to a shopping cart that provides this capability, your friend can manage the content and the business while developing web skills over time.

Begin by reviewing several shopping cart packages. Unless you are prepared to learn programming, leave the cart structure to programmers, and select one which:

1. plays to your strengths in site building
2. is easy for your friend to use
3. offers the feature list which can best support the business.

This might well be Magento, but Zen Cart is a good candidate as well. osCommerce may be a bit more time consuming to modify, and likely would not support all the features needed out of the box for this type of business. My background is in PHP/MySQL Open Source – but don’t neglect other technologies.

What do website designers in saudi arabia charge?

October 27, 2009 - 12:52 am 3 Comments

Im trying to find someone to design a website to help my small business. But I am on a budget. I found someone who sent me a prototype and did a very nice job. They want to charge 1250 for the work and 600 for the domain name.
Ive never done anything like this before, and I dont know what is considered cheap or expensive. Is that average? too much? a good deal? So far this is the only person Ive asked.
Thanks

If you’re willing to work with someone outside of Saudi Arabia, I can recommend a muslim woman in the US who does really good work. Please contact me if you’re interested and I can pass on her information and website to you. I have no idea what she charges, but I’m sure her prices are very reasonable. She’s a stay at home mom and could use the income.

Have you been Riped Off by a on line company called Web Developers Of America?

No. I’ve never even heard of them.

Thanks for asking.

I want to create an online logo store. How do I get the web site popular among graphic designers and clients?

October 27, 2009 - 12:52 am 2 Comments

You promote it locally first. If you can pull in business from the wider net, great, but nothing comes close to a face-to-face consultation when it comes to starting and building relationships and communication.

Community colleges produce a few dozen graphic designers per term, so there is a lot of competition out there. Over time, you might be able to specialize in logos, but when you’re starting out you might find it too limiting when you haven’t really established yourself yet.

Get your site up and then hit the streets to promote yourself in person to local businesses who don’t have an on-site graphic designer, and to other graphic designers who might want to farm some work out if they’re getting overwhelmed. Print shops are going to be an asset for you as well, since your clients will probably expect you to be able to have your creations put on paper.

How do you copyright your website in Canada?

October 27, 2009 - 12:52 am 3 Comments

I’ve been to the website where they have the forms and all, but I didn’t find information on how to register both the text and the images in a website. Should they be registered separately?

Also, who would own which parts of the website? By this, I mean, should the website’s developer copyright the code used to create the website and should the client copyright the text and images displayed?

What if the developer created images for the site?

Thanks!

If a Website developer did your site for you, it’s probably already copyrighted by them.

Ask them the same question.

What program or book is best to learn web site building/design?

October 27, 2009 - 12:52 am 5 Comments

I can build a simple one-page web page, but I want to learn how to build and design an actual web site, with all the bells and whistles. Unfortunately, no classes exist in my area. I have intermediate computer skills, but no programming experience. Any recommendations? My budget is about $200.

Dreamweaver http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/
is by far the best program to build websites but it is way over your budget however you could use torrent or something like Limewire or Frostwire to get it. E mail me for more info.
