I have a clothing company and need to sell my products on line, i want an e-commerce website built and designed, with a really good content management system, where i can, once its been designed add my own stuff on to there if i want to, and if i want to change pictures and stuff i can do without having to pay the company who designed it to change it for me. Im also want it to be in the price range of £2500 as the maximum price. Does any one know of any realy good ones? and if so what experience have you had with them and websites to show.

Help with e-commerce web design!!?

October 19, 2009 - 7:53 am 3 Comments

Hi, i have been designing my own e-commerce website on Expressions Web 2. I have been using Pay Pal shopping cart so that it doesn’t get too complicated :)

My website is to sell items such as mouse mats, watches, key rings with personalised photos.

I want the customer to be able to upload a photo and Preview it on the item before adding to cart.

Im really unsure how to do this. Do i need special shopping cart software etc..

Thanks for any help - much appreciated

you need some form of image manipulation software.. that probably means you need to use something like PHP and the GD library

In terms of a Web Applications Developer role, what does “bespoke web applications” mean?

October 17, 2009 - 5:31 am 3 Comments

The candidate will be responsible for assisting with the design, development and maintenance of websites, content management systems, e-commerce and other bespoke web applications.

Bespoke derives from the word "bespeak", meaning "to ask for". Bespoke web applications would refer to web applications designed to the customer’s specifications.

Tailor fit would also be a welcome analogy.

Web applications that are "tailor fitted" to meet the customers needs.

I hope that helps.

How much would you pay per hour for a web designer?

October 15, 2009 - 4:57 am 6 Comments

I am targetting small businesses for small websites. Nothing special, no e-commerce, just a web presence. A three page website. What would you pay for that? And does your estimate include all charges (hosting, domain and design)? And what would you pay for updates to your website?
Examples:
A: www.thewebdoor.net
B: www.getaktiv.net
C. www.centraloregonacupunctue.com

Are you providing flash? Rolling text? Animation? Multi-color? Back drop?

Or are you putting together something as watered down as Yahoo answers for example?

If it’s a watered down, generic template than I would say $100 would be fine. It would probably take a entry-level designer approx. 45 mins to put it together. But keep in mind that it must be secure.

Hosting? There are companies that will host a site for as little as $2.99/mo. Domain, that is another $24.00/yr, and again the design is can be as piss poor, or elaborate. Depending on the creativity, and knowledge of the designer. Your question is too basic. It’s almost like asking a person how much they are willing to pay for an automobile.

Why not offer e-commerce? It’s not that difficult to implement. And many small business not only want a presence, but the ability to sell on the internet as well. It reduces there overhead, and is an easy transaction. With the cost of gas increasing, you will find online buyers increasing as well.

Just my opinion though.

Content Ideas For Developing a Web Site For School?

October 13, 2009 - 3:38 am 1 Comment

I need to design a web site for my e-commerce class. It can be on anything I want, but I’m having a hard time coming up with a good idea that will allow me to produce an interesting, quality finished product. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Here are the only guidelines:

In the technology project each student is expected to design a web site with content of their choice that includes at least the following components:

1. Three or more statically linked pages with requisite navigation functionality to move between them
2. Pages that are generally well designed, user friendly, easy to read and use
3. The ability to store user entered information in a “database”
4. The ability to retrieve data from the “database” and display it based on user entered queries for the data.

What’s the best e-commerce platform/service provider out there?

October 1, 2009 - 8:24 am 3 Comments

Hi, I’m thinking of selling my store’s merchandise online, but I’m not going to do it on e-bay or anywhere like that. I’m building my own website, or rather will have someone build it. But I’m clueless as to where to start, I know I need an e-commerce platform, but where do I get a really good one; with full features and a small price tag?

And should I entrust everything to a single company to handle (web design/ graphics/ hosting etc.) in addition to the e-com system, or should I just hire different companies for each task? Please give any kind of tips that you think will be helpful, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!
Thanks for your answers, I will look into them.

However, I still feel I haven’t found an answer. I tried making a list and comparing prices and features, but I spent days doing that, and still didn’t come any closer to making a decision. That is why I need someone to tell me; which are the to most successful, most widely used systems? I’m looking for the safe bet, well-known companies, the Gmail-Yahoo-Hotmail of the e-commerce world.

Please do not advertise your own business, I need an honest, neutral answer

You can take a look at: http://www.threehosts.com/business

There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the E-commerce web hosting industry. They fulfill all your requirements to sell online. By using each of them, everything you need for your business website is provided in one eCommerce Hosting Package.

Review all three presented services and refer to their websites to get further information.

Good Luck!
