Does Creative Commons license allow me to reproduce music on my web design services site?

September 29, 2009 - 5:15 am 2 Comments

I design websites for musicians. I have a DEMO site that showcases all the features in my musician websites. One of the features is an integrated site-wide MP3 player. Can I use music registered under a Creative Commons license on this integrated MP3 player? This would be for DEMO purposes. I won’t be selling the music just using it to demo how the player works. I will be selling my web design services and packages. Please advice me. Thanks.

It depends on the specific terms of the Creative Commons license — the terms vary, and some allow what you are asking about, and some do not.

im wanting to start a web based business but cant find a good web design site if anyone know of one please let me know and if i can disgne it my self the please get back to me asap thanks

If you mean just the graphics and layout detail, then that is fine. But, the features your website offers and how people are going to navigate around your website is really important. I think the answer is that you should design most of the website yourself. On paper, put every possible feature for the website you could want, and maybe even draw examples. Next, use a scanner to scan them into your computer.

Finally, submit your website idea to RENTACODER.com. Instruct bidders to include a link to their portfolio in their bid, so you can see what their websites have looked like in the past. There surely must be thousands of well-qualified web-developers on rentacoder who can design your website properly, but you should be the one to instruct them how to design it. If you decide to go this route, place a link in the details section and maybe I’ll bid on it.

I’ve used Rentacoder and am very happy with my results. Just remember it is very similar to being a good supervisor, in that you shouldn’t be a jerk pointlessly and should be polite but you do have to demand things of your workers. And as mentioned, you need to already know exactly what you want. From your question, it seems like you may not have thought about it a lot. The same would be true if you were to hire a design agency or use another website to do the work.

What is the difference between web site design and website development?

September 21, 2009 - 4:34 am 5 Comments

Design = look good

Development = work good.

Front level web design is usually html / flash and is the eye candy you see.

Back level design is usually programming in PHP / ASP / Java / actionscript / etc etc and is what makes it have more functionality such as a search engine, mail functionality and other useful features.

Hi a question about copying a web site design?

September 17, 2009 - 3:40 am 2 Comments

Hi I am a amatuer web designer and I was wondering if you surf the web , you visit sites and like their design and set up are you allow to built a site of your own copying the other web sites design.
I don’t mean copying exactly pixel for pixel / code for code but very close different colors and minor changes to design.. is thisl legal or does it break some standard of web designs?

lol that’s an untouched question
i try to create my own but use other sites as a template

i believe it’s illegal… but if you take out all the backbone such as javascript java php, css and all that and remake it with you rown
i believe it’s fine

good luck

I want to purchase a new computer but don’t know where to start. I need a computer to web site Design?

September 15, 2009 - 4:36 am 5 Comments

I want to purchase a new computer but don’t know where to start. I need a computer to web site Designe(for study) , search the net, play games, copy/record music and movies, flash , maya, 3dmax, and all Macromedia software in need………….
i don’t know how much hard drive need Ram and GB ect…….

please help!

Don’t buy a branded computer, they _always_ priced much higher than if you build one yourself. The hardest part of building your own computer might be to choose the hardwares, and avoiding incompatibility, but incompatibility is rather rare. The best practice is ALWAYS choose the motherboard first, whenever building a computer.

CPU:
Well, the ones we’re worrying most for CPU are usually games. Newer games nowadays need at least newer Pentium 4 or Athlon processor. Get a duo core processor if you wish.

RAM:
Web Designing don’t need much RAM. HTML editing (WYSIWYG) needs around 64MB and Graphic Editing needs around 128MB to 512MB.

Surfing the net needs around 16MB-256MB, depending on your surfing habit. (if you’re like me, who like to open around 60 pages open at the same time, you’ll need more RAM)

Playing games… well, what kind of games? Newer games have really high RAM demand, and really high graphic card, but older games could run fine on a 32MB RAM. So, if you’re playing those memory hogs games, you’ll need around 1GB-2GB RAM (or sometimes 4GB).

Copy/Record Music and movies needs little RAM, around 64MB.

Flash, Maya, and 3DMax needs quite a bit, around 1GB.

So I’d recommend a 1GB or 2GB RAM should be enough.

Hard drive:
Seeing your use, you’d possibly need _at least_ 40GB. I’d recommend more, though, perhaps 80 or 120 GB

Graphic card:
Get a good ones. At least one with 256MB Graphic Memory.

Power Supplu (PSU):
Get ones with pure power. Don’t buy a cheap PSU unless you want your system to be fried.

Audio Card:
Onboard audio card should be enough.

Monitor:
Since you’re designing, I’d recommend something bigger than a usual monitor. Perhaps a minimal of 19" LCD monitor, use LCD if you’re gonna work long hours in front of the PC so not to tire your eyes too soon.

Speaker:
Decent ones (you’re not an audio freak aren’t you? A decent stereo speaker shouldn’t make much difference compared to a Surround Sound 7.1 audio arrangement).

Printer, Scanner, and other peripherals:
As needed.

What is the best software for web site design?

September 13, 2009 - 7:16 am 5 Comments

What is the defacto "standard" / common software used to desgin websites?

If you want to spend the next 2 years of your life learning how to use a $500 piece of software, go with Macromedia Dreamweaver.

If you just want to put up a personal web page with pictures from your vacation, try CoffeeCup Web Designer which is only about $50.

What field is better web site design or web security?

September 11, 2009 - 10:21 am 6 Comments

What is faster to find a job in?

Both skills take training. So it really comes down to what your interests are and what have you had training in. Web design takes someone who is creative, understands the internet business from programming, search, etc. and also understands usability. Web security is more on the IT side of things and you would need to know computers, i.e. programming or hardware setup and internet protocols. In essence, which side of your brain do you use and is most enjoyable – the right side being creative or the left side being technical. Both are worlds apart. But the way you asked which you can find a job faster may suggest that you need further training and to decide which is better for you in a field that you will enjoy the balance of your life. It’s a big decision!
