Should I design a free website sketch for a client?

October 21, 2009 - 7:36 am 5 Comments

I have a client from work who wants a website creating/designing.

He said that he wants a sketch before we negotiate a price, etc, but I’m stumped and don’t feel I should spend my time designing something when I’m not getting paid for the hours.

He has seen my portfolio and I’m currently employed in the same company as him as a Web Designer.

Would you give him a fixed price and that’s it or would you complete the sketch for free and show it to him and then give a price?

Thanks

I agree with you, if this is a client at work he/she should really know you by now are you a web designer/freelancer part time or is it separate. I wouldn’t do it myself in the long run you have a better chance of them changing their minds on you. Charge even $20 bucks if you know you can sketch quick then tell the person its nonrefundable and will be applied to the overall website you have designed therefore you both will benefit and you at least get a free lunch if all else fails.

I don’t know what it is today but some people don’t know how to do business your time is your time and the saying time is money is always a factor otherwise they will work you for free and that’s rude on their part I get a lot of it and know what to do probably 80% of people will do this to you.

I am designing a website, your opinion would help!!! What color and design do you associate with "perky"

October 17, 2009 - 5:32 am 3 Comments

Please tell me what color or colors you assioiate with perky, being perky, and overall upbeat, happy, and cheerful!

What type of website design to you like for a e-commerce website that sell upbeat, fun things? Please describe or give an example URL? I will assume that you mean for this website to be in the color scheme above even if it is posted differently?

When buying things online which of these statements best describes your preferances?

-I like to buy from eBay and eBay Stores better then the companies website, even if there is no difference in price.

-I like to buy from the manufacturers website even if they are a small brand. I prefer to pay with Pay-Pal.

-I like to buy from the manufacturers website even if they are a small brand. I do not care what checkout method they use as long as it is secure.
any ideas on a font?

A good cheap website that will let you design t shirts?

October 15, 2009 - 4:57 am 5 Comments

ok so my one year anniversary is coming up and i want to make me and my bf matching shirts and i wana order them online but every website i’ve seen eihter has a minimun number of shirts you have to buy or are really really preicy. So does anyone know of a good website that will let you design a shirt and at a reasonble individual price?
*10 points for the one that helps the most =D

thanks!

u can design ur own style of t-shorts using something as simple as microsoft word and if u go to usually any public clothing manufacturer u can print ur designs on t-shirts for a really cheap price rather than if u used private manufacturing companies. also, if u buy in bigger bulks it will be a lot less expensive.

Is there a company that allows you to directly ship products from your website out of their warehouse?

October 13, 2009 - 3:38 am 6 Comments

Is there a company who not only stores your products for sale, they set up the backend of the website (and give you product numbers to track stuff) and shopping cart.

All you have to do is have items you want to sell directly shipped to the warehouse and it will be catologed for your website to be priced and sold. THEN its directly shipped to the person who buys it. Anybody know of a company who does that? For example if I make jewlery and want to sell it, is there a way that I can have the warehouse set up the back end and stuff so all I have to worry about is the front end website design?

http://www.worldwidebrands.com get positive reviews from the online merchants forum I visit. They have a list (for a fee) of suppliers who will ship for you (dropship).

Do you have website / electronic storefront already. If not, visit http://www.multi-tradeonline.com — reseller of StoresOnline [SOL] storebuilder licenses for as low as 10% of what it would have cost you (price of 1 site compared to price for ‘pack of 3 sites + other stuff bundled together’ — the minimum you can buy direct from SOL).

What do you charge for website design?

October 7, 2009 - 10:38 am 5 Comments

I’m doing some market research for website design and just wanted to get an idea of what other people or companies in the industry charge for web design services. Please, no speculation. If you do sites, what do you charge? If you had a site done, what did you pay? Or link to sources that have prices for web design services.

I am sorry, but your question and details are much too vague to give specific details.

For example:

• What area of the world will this be designed for, and in. Pricing is different around the world, not to mention different monetary systems.

• How extensive will the web site be. A handful of pages, several pages, or many (hundreds/thousands). The number of people involved to do large projects makes a difference.

• How involved will the web site be.
º º Graphic work.
º º Scripting.
º º Database accessing.
º º Programming.
º º Interactive.
º º Etc…

• Does the client know what they want. Or will this be more like an Ad Agency, where the client will not know what they will like until they see it designed (meaning it may have to be done several times).

• Will this be a one time shot, or an ongoing contract to maintain the web site after design and implementation.

• Etc…

You will be better off doing a Google search with specific keywords in your search criteria so that you can gather the information you desire.

What is the best way to advertise my website design services for free or reasonably priced on the internet?

I own a small website design service and I am wanting to advertise more on the web. I have done craigslist but not much anywhere else. Any ideas?
I’m looking for a way to advertise my website design business - North Texas Nerd. Check out the site at northtexasnerd.com

After an initial review of your SEO metatags, it appears that they are in much need of revision, especially when you have chosen to place your domain name as the <title>. Where’s the rest of the metatags such as <description> and <keywords>? The following article may prove helpful in designing and implementing effective metatags.

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and
MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these
search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
very large Internet Yellow Pages.

Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using
such "generic" queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.

Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which
should consist of no more than 65 characters separated
by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic
terms, the goods and services, followed by a location
from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.
The placement of a domain name which is not generic
within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the "Description" which is
usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which
best describes one’s goods and services.

And the very last category - "Keywords" are also
somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
"Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.

Here’s an example of a very highly-placed website on
Google.com: Begin with the very "generic" search query
"sandwiches downtown los angeles," taking note to not
abbreviate Los Angeles to "LA" and of course, leave
out the parentheses ("). It will bring up some 2.4
million+ search results. Check out where "Nazos.net"
is ranked. It’s ranked No. 1!
Again, Nazos.net’s high web presence was achieved by
proper web design and placement of relevant metatags
according to Google’s publication guidelines.

Good luck!
