What is the typical rate charged to design a website?

October 1, 2009 - 8:24 am 2 Comments

We are looking to get something built using some Flash. We have some of the graphics already made, we’ve already secured a domain, and we have someone to host already. We need a password protected area where we can upload files for members to download. What kind of prices are out there, and does anyone know a good company? We need this done pretty fast… Thanks!

You can find many flash web designers at website like http://definitivelab.com/ .

What would be a price range for having a website designed that visitors could would need to interact with?

Also, is it necessary to hire a web designer for this?

The website would have a data base of real estate listings. There would be a fair amount of graphics and I would like to use Flash if possible because it looks really good. I realize that my question is a little clueless; I’m not a techie. I appreciate your patience and advice!

You can count on that kind of site costing a quite a bit of money to do the right way. When it comes to things like this, you can have two out of these three: Done cheap, Completed quickly, High quality.

A high quality site that is done quickly will cost an arm and a leg. A cheap high quality one may be in development for the next two years, and a cheap, quick one will fall apart and make your visitors go to your competitor.

Hiring a designer is a necessity. As well as hiring a developer. The two are very different, but you can usually find a firm that employs both.

Think of it as building a house…web designer –> interior designer. web developer –> architect

Neither could do the other’s job, and you wouldn’t want them to try.

On average though, a comprehensive database-interactive site can cost between 8k and 10k USD. That is really the low end, though. It can be very expensive to get a site going.

Oh and I’d recommend avoiding flash, it is an accessibility nightmare…meaning that if your visitors don’t have it, they don’t see your content. Look to the big-time sites and see how much Flash they use…sites like Google and Yahoo. YouTube gets away with it solely because there is no alternative…the rest though…anyone who can avoid it will.

i wonder that how can contact to the company that they need to design their website?

How much to design a website?

September 25, 2009 - 7:14 am 8 Comments

Can someone let me know the average cost for building a website? I was quoted a price by a friend. Give me the cost per hour or how much it would be for the entire project.
This is for a retail website for clothing etc… So I will need a shopping cart added and all that.

Figure on $60. an hour ~
You can always do it yourself….

What is the best and easiest to use website building/ design/ construction software available?

September 21, 2009 - 4:34 am 1 Comment

I am looking to build a website which will feature mainly academic papers and information. Nothing fancy. I am looking to buy software that is the best for the job and easy to use as well. Price is not a factor.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95. You can see their Plan Details accompanied with reliable reviews regarding their service at:
http://www.threehosts.com/reviews/1st

Here I have copied and pasted its features from their website to view:

- Free Domain Forever
- Unlimited Space
- Unlimited Transfer
- Blog (wordpress)
- Forum (phpbb,bulletin)
- Host UNLIMITED Domains (Support All Domain Names)
- 2,500 POP/Imap Email Accounts
- SSH (Secure Shell), SSL, FTP, Stats
- CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MySQL
- Front Page Extensions
- Free Site Builder
- 24/7 Superb/Responsive Sales/Support
- Free Search Engine Submission

They also offer "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program. (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get) You can use this service optionally.

******IMPORTANT********
* This service was awarded “The Best Web Host OF The Year”.

Website design?

September 17, 2009 - 3:40 am 5 Comments

hello,
i am a fairly new website designer. I have created my own site, and have found a new client. I am unsure about the pricing. I am unable to do the site for free but I dont want to alienate them…
what would be a sensible cost for a 3 or 4 page site, plus the designing of a few graphics potentially?
Cheers
adam

I dont know - but let me know when you do! Because I need one too! I need a website designed that doesnt cost the earth because I too am setting up a new business.
Why not do a few at minimal cost just to get your bearings and see how it all goes then start charging more?

Nottingham-Spirk: Blending Economics and Design

September 13, 2009 - 4:24 pm No Comments

This video case-study from the Batten Institute at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business presents the approach to innovation followed by Nottingham-Spirk, an innovation and design consultancy based in Cleveland, Ohio. The firm specializes in improving everyday products and then re-designing them to sell at prices lower than elsewhere in the market. Following the design path of one product, this video walks students through the firm’s seamless process, illustrating how Nottingham-Spirk manages to maximize quality and consumer appeal, yet still keeping costs down. Sean Carr of the Batten Institute and Darden professor Kamalini Ramdas worked with the Darden Media video production team to develop this video. Where can I find someone to design a flash intro page for my website for a low price?

September 11, 2009 - 10:22 am 2 Comments

I have a website and would like a flash intro page made. However, I have checked around and it seems most of the prices are VERY expensive. Is there anyone out there doing it for reasonable prices? I’m not asking for hours worth of work here. Just an intro page. Anyone here know anyone that doesn’t charge that much?

Don’t search for major companies because they will cost you a fortune, talk to your friends and family because it’s a really easy job that most people you wouldn’t expect probably know how to do. However if you can’t find anyoe personally that you know, search newspapers for local small companies.
