How do I become a website designer?

November 7, 2009 - 2:01 pm 7 Comments

I want to be a website designer when I’m older, so I’m trying to find out what I need to do..

I’m currently learning CSS and HTML.
I am going to get photoshop, and I am learning how to use it.

Is there anything else I need to learn, or any subjects I should focus on in school?

What uni qualifications are there that would help me be a website designer?

Any additional information would be appreciated too.

Thanks!

Four simple tips to better your web design skills:

1) Do a homework on XHTML, CSS and Photoshop on regular basis. Read good books and online resources for 2 hours daily.

2) Visit three to four best design websites on regular basis to get yourself updated with latest CSS design and techniques. You can look for www.cssdrive.com, www.cssbeauty.com/gallery/, w3csites.com

3) Start building a website: It may be your own or for your school etc. You can use www.webs.com a free web hosting providers to upload and make your site LIVE.

4) Look for a review from few popualar website reviews sites like:
www.sitepoint.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=12
webmasterworld.com or www.webmasterforums.com/web-site-design-reviews/
www.daniweb.com/forums/forum55.html
After getting negative comments, works on it to improve and again post your feedback letting the users know about the update you made.

REPEAT steps 1 to 4 for 1 year and once your site is ready, get back to me to do some freelance work for us :)

How to become a website designer?

I would like to know the learning path to become a website designer. And how long it takes to be ready to start working?

When I started learning about web design, I already had a strong background on programming and networking. The two go hand in hand when it comes to web design. My advice is to read up on how the internet works, then learn how to host your own websites, then progress into learning intricately the nature of X/HTML. From there, you will be ready to tackle client and serve side scripting languages.

The graphical part of web design is something that lies seperate from the technical nature of web development. Graphic design is something that some people just don’t have. Try starting on paper by exploring your creativity and experimenting with what you would possibly design. Once you think you have successfully developed your creativity in graphics, get yourself a good vector graphics program. Photoshop or its free alternative, GIMP, will do. Start trying to duplicate your paper designs on the graphics program. The last pat is learning how to slice the design and optimize it for the web, but by now you will probably figure it out :)

What do you look for when choosing a website designer?

What are some of the important things that you as a client would look for when choosing a designer for your website?

Thanks for your help and input :)

Braydon.

When I was looking for a designer I looked for 1. Other websites that they designed and if it was similar in style and taste to what I was looking for. 2. Price. 3. After talking with the person did I feel that he was listening to what I was saying or just giving me the runaround to get my business. 4. How often was the designer willing to update and change my website.

I guess that’s pretty much the most important things for me.

Unfortunately, the price thing got to me for the website I have now so I’m doing it myself.

What do website designers in saudi arabia charge?

October 27, 2009 - 12:52 am 3 Comments

Im trying to find someone to design a website to help my small business. But I am on a budget. I found someone who sent me a prototype and did a very nice job. They want to charge 1250 for the work and 600 for the domain name.
Ive never done anything like this before, and I dont know what is considered cheap or expensive. Is that average? too much? a good deal? So far this is the only person Ive asked.
Thanks

If you’re willing to work with someone outside of Saudi Arabia, I can recommend a muslim woman in the US who does really good work. Please contact me if you’re interested and I can pass on her information and website to you. I have no idea what she charges, but I’m sure her prices are very reasonable. She’s a stay at home mom and could use the income.

A website where web designers donate their time for people with little or no money for a website?

I found a website awhile ago where people post projects for their websites and they have little or no money to build a website. I am trying to find it but I can’t. Any one know of this site?

There are excellent and cheap freelancers there that will do your pages for the best prices because there is a big competition between them and they want to attract buyers with lowest prices, and they provide an excellent design.

Membership is totally free, so you can post your project now for free and receive diferent bids.( there are a commission of 5% for every project)

How can I repay my website designer, who did the free of charge?

October 19, 2009 - 7:53 am 5 Comments

I had a friend from the Philippines volunteer to assist in designing my website. She is a professional webpage designer and has declined any method of payment. It’s against my morals to take without giving back, so what can I do to repay her, knowing she lives in a distant location?
That should have said "who did the site free of charge."

Give her credit on the website, with a link to her website, so that people who like the design will be able to contact and hire her.
Or… when her birthday comes around, get her a real nice present. Or…. help her out with something she needs help with.

Hi,
You don’t need a school. Just go to;

No matter what classrooms you sit in you will never beat hands on experience.
