I am not a computer wiz, however, I am very creative, and enjoy designing ads, etc. I am wanting to start a couple of online companies and I need websites to go along with them obviously. I have signed up for a couple of college courses that I start next week…a photoshop course and a web page design course. My question is just how difficult is it, and how long does it take to design a medium to highly interactive website?? Thanks for your help!
Simply designing a nice-looking static page isn’t very difficult at all, but it can progress much further than that when you get into scripting, particularly server-side.
If you’re going to start an online company, you’re likely going to need to get into a server-side language such as PHP and ASP, which involves actual programming as opposed to layout and design that entails HTML and CSS.
Timewise once you know what you’re doing, designing a site does not take long at all. You can develop a pretty substantial site in a week. although depending on complexity, you’d need more time for testing.

I was wondering if there are any good books on owning and managing a social networking website. I have found it difficult to prepare for the challenges of managing a website. We recently hired a consulting/software development company that has taken care of everything from design and development to analyzing, testing, and hosting. However, I would like to know everything that they know!
Is there anything I can study to learn the ins and outs of owning and operating a social networking website?

I am creating an auction website. I am confused what to do. To buy a ready made website and then alter it and add features to it (Cost around 100 British Pounds)? OR to hire a company to custom make the website exactly to my requirements , which would cost like 2,500 British Pounds to 10,000 British Pounds?! Is it possible to change template of the website but keep programming stuff unchanged?
It depends on the software. Why don’t you ask the software vendor what it’s capabilities are along those lines? Since we don’t know WHAT software you are considering, how can we possibly know?
I want to have a catchy name for it.

I am preparing a project plan for a company that wishes to setup their business by offering locations and crew for filming movies etc. In addition to the basic information that needs to get on the website, I want to know where I can find the "Database" specific information regarding the same. e.g. what exactly are the IT specific requirements of such a website creation where images, meta data, crew people and their practices are stored, and is easily accessible to users? Actually IT specific requirements are security, reliability and user frendily interface. If u do using .net then install the MS Visual Studio 2005 and it’ll all provide sql.
