How to create a commercial web site?

November 13, 2009 - 8:44 am

I used to be a computer programmer and have worked on web sites but have never designed and build a complete site. I have a client who wants an e-commerce site. It will have the ability for people to order things and pay with a credit card and use PayPal probably and generate emails to their warehouse, etc. Where do I start? Where can I get software to help create the site and do the credit card stuff and all that? Where do I go to get it hosted? Thanks for any tips.

there is a particular software that helps you design a site in minutes check it here www.successvilla.naijacampusforum.com

Any site like http://www.godaddy.com http://www.5u.com can sell a domain for you so start with getting space for it. I would recommend getting Adobe Dreamweaver to design the website unless you want to code the entire website with notepad, which i think is more effort than it’s worth. As for the credit card stuff i think it would be a regular submit box that would email you the results. they have them in dreamweaver. But i think bigger companies create mysql databases and have them sent to it.Honestly i would recommend having someone else do it, and have you run it. It sounds like you don’t know a whole lot about web design, no offense, and thats a big project in the first place.

you can try using OS Commerce. It’s free, and you don’t have to be an experienced programmer to customize it. It is an online shop e-commerce solution that offers a wide range of out-of-the-box features that allows online stores to be setup fairly quickly with ease, and is available for free as an Open Source based solution.

For the host, I suggest you go for My Webbie Hosting’s plans. OS commerce is already preinstalled, which means you only have to activate it through your control panel (no need to install it manually). The cheapest plan is worth $3.95/month which includes a FREE domain name, 1.5 G disk space, 150 G monthly transfer, 50 email accounts, etc.

I also posted below the link to their control panel demo in case you want to have a try.
