What is the best software for web site design and management?

January 9, 2010 - 6:20 am 7 Comments

Thanks, everyone.

I have two purposes for the question. One is that I am applying for a job that requires web site management. I do not know the software that the organization uses. It is a registered charity.

I am also trying to learn so that I can put up a tribute site to my late partner who was a writer. I want it to be a good quality site.

So I am trying to learn in the best way possible.

Adobe Dreamweaver is the website editing and management software.

What is a good name for a web site about learning web design?

December 1, 2009 - 7:38 am 4 Comments

Hi, I’m learning web design and to learn it I’m creating a web site that I will hopefully publish. I have no ideas for a name though so I’m looking for suggestions. All suggestions are welcome thanks for all help.

If you’re website is somewhat formal, I;d suggest something like "Webmaster: Web Expertise" or something like that.
It it’s a friendly, informal-ish site, then I’d recommend something awesome like "Web Bean." No one can resist a site who’s emblem is a sizzling coffee bean.

when can I start my web site design after i buy a domain with yahoo.com?

Usually you design the web site on your own computer. It is usually a bunch of HTML files. In fact, you might want to get the main page done before you purchase the domain so you have something to put up there. Once ready, you transfer the files up to the domain using FTP (You will get instructions for this from your host)

How to design a web site on a Mac?

October 28, 2009 - 10:16 pm 2 Comments

Hello, I am a Mac user and I am starting a web site. What are the appropriate tools to create, design and develop websites on a Mac?

If you are running Mac OS 10.5 Leopard, it comes preinstalled with iLife ’08, which includes iWeb, a simple to use, decent web designing tool. If you don’t have OS 10.5, try searching for iWeb in Spotlight or Finder. something should show up unless you don’t have iLife on your Mac. Also, you could use Dreamweaver CS3 from Adobe for Mac for serious web developing.

What program or book is best to learn web site building/design?

October 27, 2009 - 12:52 am 5 Comments

I can build a simple one-page web page, but I want to learn how to build and design an actual web site, with all the bells and whistles. Unfortunately, no classes exist in my area. I have intermediate computer skills, but no programming experience. Any recommendations? My budget is about $200.

Dreamweaver http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/
is by far the best program to build websites but it is way over your budget however you could use torrent or something like Limewire or Frostwire to get it. E mail me for more info.

Is there a site that teaches you the business side of web design?

October 23, 2009 - 4:36 am 1 Comment

Is there a site that teaches you the business side of web design. I know that web designers can own the sites they design for companies but what does that exactly entitle them to do or have? What are the other legal aspects of designing a site?

Your question is a little ambiguous…

- Web developers have copyright on their work, but give it away when the website is "sold" to the client. That does not mean they cannot re-use PARTS of the CODE. However, they cannot use the "images" or the layouts they have created: these have been "sold". The legality of the copyright? Depends on the country, and the legislation is very vague, so, there is no such a site (as far as I know)…

- The "business" side of a website is a totally different matter: we are talking about "marketing".
Most people believe that a website is the "universal panacea" that will make them famous, or rich, or promote their "business".
This is a question of Marketing, for which there are schools everywhere, giving you an "MBA" (Master in Business and Administration), or something similar.
A website is NOT your marketing policy. The website is PART of your marketing policy!!! BIG difference!
It is very sad to see so many websites that, although well designed, have so little understanding of marketing (I would guess moree than 90%!!!), and that their owner is wondering WHY the website is not successful…
I know why!

Need advertising ideas for my web site design business!?

October 21, 2009 - 7:36 am 8 Comments

Hello, my question is I recentely started working for a company that sells web sites for small business’s. My job is basically to find a prospective client and set up an appointment with our product specialist if they decide to purchase the site I would then get a commision from the sale. My problem is the advertising and marketing side of it. I have put out some ads on craigslist, local papers and such, but I am not getting the responses I am looking for. My goal is to bring the business’s that need or are looking for a website to me. I am really not good at cold calling, nor do I like disturbing owners from their job especially if they are not interested. So I am looking for new ideas to advertise. Any and all suggestions no matter how big or small are greatly appreciated.

The best way to advertise your online business i.e. selling websites is through Google Adwords. As you are aware that millions of people search for products and services on google, so its a best place to advertise and find your targeted prospects , then you can follow-up with them later.
Its very easy to set-up your Adwords account and its initial set-up cost is just $5. You are charged only if someone clicks on your ads.
After that you can select your keywords on which your ads will be shown. These keywords helps you to target the interested clients/people who are already searching for the service that you are providing. A good example of the keyword can be "websites for sales", now on this keyword you can display your classified ad. It really works & I’ve sold lot many info products using this technique, without any cold calls or direct interactions.
The only thing you need to take care is setting this all up properly.

Hope this will help you.
