i would like to do web site design as a business?

August 22, 2009 - 3:40 pm

i would like to ask some questions about web site design:
what does it consist of is it graphics and html or both or whatever please answer thanks!

Everyone seems to have a different perspective on "Website Design". Some people feel that website design should cover the design process as well as the development process, while others feel that the design process should be completely separate from development.

I guess it all depends on your agreement with the client, and your level of knowledge and expertise on the subject.

If you are a great designer, but not so great with HTML and development - then you should make it clear to your client that the service you offer is strictly design.

I must admit, though, if you can pull together and do great work in both areas (development & design) you will be more desirable to potential clients.

Building a website is a lot of work..

It basically consists of your content and the point you want to make with it. HTML is a language you use to put web pages together, yes..

if you want some further clarification, let me know..

It’s the whole process of taking a customer’s requirements and turning it into a working website.

This usually involves some graphics, some HTML, some development, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

You can focus on one part (ie. just front-end design or just programming) but if you want to own your own business you’ll need to know a little bit of everything - then when you need to get advanced you can hire someone with more skill than you in that area.

    Robbie,

You can certainly design and update your own website without requiring any training or schooling in HTML. For having little to no web design knowledge, you’ll want to check out the WYSIWYG simple web design programs (what you see is what you get). One of the most popular, well-reviewed, and affordable among these programs is Sandvox for Mac OS X from Karelia Software http://www.sandvox.com. Sandvox features over 50 design templates, with more coming from third-party sources nearly every day http://www.sandvoxdesigns.com.

See some examples of professional websites you can create with Sandvox at http://www.sandvoxed.com. Check out their tutorial screencast at http://www.karelia.com/sandvox/screencast.html?autoplay=YES and download a free demo if you like what you see. Karelia is also well-known for a great and supportive user community and excellent customer service.

Best of luck with your new website.

P.S. Karelia just posted a screencast on integrating Google Analytics with Sandvox. Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Me6UQUBFp-s
