August 26, 2009 - 1:17 pm

I have done some websites for ocassional clients who asked me for it.I decided to strat doing web sites commercially ?How do I start this business ?I mean how do I get clients, webdesign leads, how to promote (successfully) the company(online & offline), how to set the prices up, and how to estimate projects, or answers quotes ?Thanks

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you’re interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you’ll inevitably have as well as many you haven’t anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* How to Start a Home-Based Web Design Business, 2nd by Jim Smith
* The Real Business of Web Design Paperback by John Waters
* Professional Web Design: Techniques and Templates by Clint Eccher, Eric Hunley, Erik Simmons

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

    My dad once told me:
To make your own website you’ll have to take these steps:
    Make a website
Go to you ISP and ask them for a space for your webpage
after they qualify it, your webpage will be made!

Well nowadays most americans get their sites done from india. So to be honest you should just charge what they charge. about $700 for a professional site. As far as your leads beleive it or not just advertise on yahoo and google and people will call!
