I want to become a website designer, where do I begin?
I want to become a website designer but I don’t know where to begin the learning process. I am fairly confident with a computer and am able to install and use software, browse the internet and produce simple web pages. I would appreciate a response especially from those who are already experienced in website design.
Thank you
there are many free ebooks and online refrences from which u can learn web designing
the three main things which u need to learn are HTML , CSS and basic Javascripting
http://www.w3schools.com/ is the best and most comprehensive site for learning them.
u can also search on Google for helps on particular topics.
for designing web pages u can use softwares like GSNotepad (really a good one to use). once u get familiar with designing u can use sophisticated softwares like HTMLPad (another good one) .
WYSIWYG editors (in which u directly design the output) like Dreamweaver and MSfrontpage should never be used.
ALL THE BEST!!

web designing divided into two parts:
1. Designing Part:- Editing photos(Adobe Photoshop), Drag-n-Drop HTML content(Adobe Dreamweaver), Creating Flash content(Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight).
2. Programming Part:- if u want some dynamic part(Connecting Database etc) in your web u hav to learn various Programming languages(web scripts).
Client-side:- javascript,vbscript
Server side:- pHp, vbscript(serverside ASP), JSP(java servelets)
Difference b/w two is you have to be creative(genuinely) for first part.
& for second part logical reasoning, gud mathematical skills are imp.
Search Google for nearby institutes
Gud luck!

A web designer is someone that deals with the graphical part of a website, whereas a web developer does the programming, people often get the 2 terms mixed up. If you want to do graphics for websites the best thing to do is to hunt around the internet for websites that you like the look of. This will give you an idea of what works well on website - and also what does not work so well. You will need to put together a portfolio of designs, or you could make ready made templates. Check out this site which has lots of templates you could use for inspiration
http://www.templatemonster.com/
You will need a tool to make your graphics in. Photoshop is very good, but is also very expensive. Hunt around for the graphics program you want to use, and look for tutorials for how to use it - the better you know how to use it, the more you will be able to do with your designs.
This website is good for looking at colour schemes that go well together

As you can put together simple web pages, you could start your own portfolio page of your templates and any other graphical work you do. So that it is out there. Having a portfolio online is great way to show your skills, especially when it comes to prospective employers wanting to see examples of your work.
Best of luck!
