What do you look for when choosing a website designer?

October 28, 2009 - 10:16 pm

What are some of the important things that you as a client would look for when choosing a designer for your website?

Thanks for your help and input :)

Braydon.

When I was looking for a designer I looked for 1. Other websites that they designed and if it was similar in style and taste to what I was looking for. 2. Price. 3. After talking with the person did I feel that he was listening to what I was saying or just giving me the runaround to get my business. 4. How often was the designer willing to update and change my website.

I guess that’s pretty much the most important things for me.

Unfortunately, the price thing got to me for the website I have now so I’m doing it myself.

    Braydon,

The first, foremost and only thing you really need to check is how many satisfied customers they have (their track record). Look for ‘genuine’ comments from customers on the website or get some names of previous site designs and email them to see how well they liked the work done. If they liked it, you will probably like it. Of course, if you can get a satisfaction guarantee, all the better.

    Ask to see their portfolio.

Tell them you want to contact some customers to see if they are happy.

If they don’t want you to speak to any customers, chances are they are lying about doing the work.

I see it all the time. There are so many people that say "I built Nike.com and so forth.

This is coming from experience, I own http://www.australianwebsitehosting.com.au and hear it from customers all the time.
